Letter to Clergy - May
9th, 2008
Colleagues, Hope this finds you in a good state of mind. If you need an excuse to take a break, perhaps this is it. This week's conversation-starter is on the blog: http://www.nwareacc.blogspot.com/. Please check it out and respond.A few of you have inquired about the Area's finances. Thank you. Working under the threat of only partial payment or reimbursement is bearable when you know that others care. Congregational giving is down. Some regular contributors have sent nothing this year. Others have reduced their giving (probably due to reduced giving in the congregation). This would be less of a problem if we had not already paid $4000 for the area's first audit but that was, we all agreed, something that had to be done. Let us hear from you about what you need so that we can better support you. Among Us
Coming Up Life Long Learning Mike Campbell passed along a copy of a great article by Dave Dunbar about current buzz-words in the church. Here is an exerpt: "Let's face it, today's ecclesiastical landscape is confusing. In addition to all the old categories (fundamentalist, evangelical, mainline, etc.) we now have a number of terms that reflect the bubbling ferment within the American church. The terms "missional," "emerging," and "emergent" pop up with increasing frequency and little precision. The result is that communication gets messy and many people are perplexed about who's on first and who's on second." To see the rest of the article, go to: Next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, May 12th, 13th, and 14th, George Bullard will be leading three identical webinars on the subject, Introduction to Every Congregation Needs a Little Conflict. The cost of the webinar is $19.00. The benefits of this webinar are, --One hour presentation by George Bullard. --The PowerPoint used in presentation will be shared with you. ---A copy of three Amazon Shorts e-documents related to conflict ministry will be sent to you following the webinar. To reserve your spot, Register for Webinar. Curriculum Resources created by Congregations: http://discipleshare.ccinky.net/DisciplesDocsCentral.aspxRevitalization Resources from Homeland Missions: http://www.discipleshomemissions.org/RESOURCES/Revitalization.aspMissions Regional Minister Danny Stewart recently returned from a trip with Global Missions to China. There is some exciting news from the 40 million strong Christian community there. Danny took several photos and a few videos and has a 30-minute Power Point presentation. Contact him for more information: We Honor Christ In Ann Nichole-Walters, Wyatt Park CC, who has been added to the list of ministers from that congregation. Ann has been engaged in extensive missionary activity for many years. Self Care We remind you that Rickman Center offers one free night each year for clergy who want to go on personal retreat. There are several state parks nearby for hiking. Contact Bill Ryan at 866-635-0848 or visit the website: Hunting for Morrells? Poison Ivy likes the same places. Be extra careful. As I write this, the sun is shining after a steady all-morning downpour and I've returned from bussing tables at a benefit to raise funds for children with special needs. This event was organized by a fellow fire fighter whose 7 - year old is blind, and physically unable to do anything for himself. Interesting to me is the fact that this family is not raising money to pay their son's huge medical bills but those of others. The Cameron golf course is already full of police, EMS, and fire fighters and their spouses - all of who are there because of a couple's deep desire to serve. It is always a privilege to serve those who serve with Christ. The blessings received always outweigh any sacrifice we make. Thanks for serving this week. (For the entire staff) Bill Bill Rose-Heim |
