    Soles4Souls

Jim Lawson, pastor at Pickering Christian Church, became aware of the need for shoes while reading a Christian newsletter that featured a national program called Soles4Souls. He said he believed it would be a great undertaking for their congregation. He and his fellow church members agreed to hold a drive between now and Sat, Nov 22 to collect shoes in the area. The shoes will then be blessed and donated to Soles4Souls to distribute where needed. Lawson said it was exciting to be a part of it, to see that his people are also excited about it and to experience the overwhelming response that has occurred already.

    Week of Compassion Updates

    Third Quarter Response Fund Report

Greetings from Week of Compassion, and thank you for your continued support. Your generosity, concern and prayers bring help and hope to countless people throughout the world. We are grateful here; many more elsewhere are grateful.

Within the WOC budget, the single largest line item is the Compassion Response Fund. Through this allocation (and special designated accounts), WOC is able to respond promptly to emergencies, disasters and other urgent humanitarian requests as they arise. Below is a brief summary of responses we have made through September 30, 2008, from the Response Fund and certain designated disaster accounts. This, of course, is only a snapshot and does not include other resources we are providing for long-term sustainable development projects. But we do hope it will offer an overview of the many emergency needs to which we Disciples are responding. Three-quarters of the way through this year, WOC has provided $1,218,148 in relief and recovery grants to 216 requests/situations for an average of once every 1.2 days! Thank you for helping make this ministry around the world, around the year.
