CAMP COUNSELORS WANTED
We are looking for those amazing people who
are called to be camp counselors. We particularly need male
counselors for 123 Go, Junior and Chi-Rho. These are the people
who help kids to profoundly connect with God and they are among
the most highly respected and cherished servant/leaders in the
Church. If you would like to be a counselor at one or more of
the camps please contact Sue Jameson,
nwchurchcamp@yahoo.com

GENERAL YOUTH COUNCIL
The General Youth Council application kit is
now available online at
www.disciplesyouth.com.
This year we are encouraging all applicants to
download the kit and send it back electronically in order to
expedite the election process. Please note the application kit
is due no later than July 1, 2008. The selection
committee will meet at the conclusion of ICYF, which will be
July 27th of this year. Each region is asked to
select one candidate for the GYC. The GYC is hoping to select a
total of seven people (5 youth and 2 adults) to serve a two year
term beginning in January 2009.
The General Youth Council is comprised of a
wide variety of Disciples youth and adults from across the
country. Their major functions include developing activities for
youth at General Assembly in 2009 and providing a voice from a
youth perspective in the leadership of the general church. As
such, it is imperative that we have a diverse group of students
and adults in order that a variety of voices can be heard.
If you have any questions please feel free to
contact me at
tiseming@dhm.disciples.org or (888) 346-2631. Thank
you for your help on this important group of young people.

Week of Compassion Updates
Recovery Work Continues - Thank You,
Disciples!
As we move into the final few months of the
Disciples Hurricane Recovery Initiative, the good news out of
the Office of Disciples Volunteering is that 742 groups have now
participated in or are scheduled for a work trip to hurricane
recovery efforts along the Gulf Coast (and tornado rebuilding
work in Greensburg , KS ). Great news, indeed, and no doubt the
goal of 750 groups will be reached in the next few weeks as ODV
continues to receive inquiries daily.
It is good to set and reach goals, but what is
really important is the homes being rebuilt, the lives being
changed and the congregations being re-energized because of the
thousands of volunteers who are participating in this project.
I'm just back from a week of pastoral visits to Disciples
mission stations, congregations and partners in Mississippi and
Louisiana and heard again and again accounts of what this effort
has meant to so many.
Of course, recovery work doesn't end when this
two- year initiative ends on August 31, 2008. Indeed, rebuilding
needs remain enormous and will take years and years to meet.
Groups are already calling about the fall and winter. An
announcement about Phase II will be made soon.
Also, a word of thanks to the thousands of
Disciples congregations, members and friends who have given (and
continue to give) more than $4 million to WOC for hurricane
relief and recovery. Those gifts are changing lives. Thanks!
