A Movement to Restore Unity in Service
The denomination known as the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) began:
- on the North American frontier in the early 1800's
- as a movement to break free from the constraints of too much doctrine and too complicated church structures
- in order to unite Christians to carry out the primary missions of the original Church founded by Jesus Christ
What started out as a purely voluntary association of small, independent congregations evolved into three distinctive groups:
- Church of Christ
- Christian Church (independent)
- Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mid-America is a vountary partnership between Disciples of Christ congregations in most of Missouri (excluding the Kansas City region) and part of soutwestern Illinois. The NW Area includes 67 congregations mostly located west of US 65 and north of I-70.
We are best known for our commitment to help our congregations to bring together Christians of any or no denomination in service and witness to neighborhoods and communities.
